Paris of the Middle East

... or at least the middle of Hastings street, Vancouver.

Why is it that when someone asks you “What’s your favorite restaurant?” Most of us instinctively already have an answer ready to blurt out (subconscious or not). For me, that restaurant hands down, no questions asked, is Nuba.

My love-affair with this tiny Lebanese tapas-style eatery began just last year as I stumbled across the oh-so enticing entranceway. Almost hidden under the old Dominion Building at Cambie and Hastings, the deco oozes playful sophistication doubled as earthy wellness. With modern flare and subtle draw this restaurant practices what so many other, dare I say ‘hipster’ joints, can only preach - laid-back, stylish yet cheap, veggie eats. In other words… my sustenance,

If you haven’t already had a chance to tempt your palates with their so so soh fresh taboulleh, delish baba ghannoj or crispy garden falafel well then I’m sorry… I just don’t think we can be friends.

She Go Goes..

Gosh Durn' it! I've really gone and done it now.

Enter my new challenge: The 2010 Scotia Bank Half Marathon.

Yes on June 27th, I will officially become a "long-distance runner". Of course I understand that to many people, this is hardly a feat- after all thousands upon thousands of people do this every year (heck probably every month). But nonetheless, this is big. like REALLY big for me.

What inspired me to take this on you ask? As funny, sad, narcissistic as this might sound – I was really just sick of hearing other people talk about it. And so I figured; what’s wrong with me? I run practically 7 days a week. There is NO reason I can’t do it. And thus in a moment of bravery I registered for my first half marathon.

So training, visualizing, sweating aside, what’s really going to get me through this challenge? Visions of this…

Ok well maybe without the meat.  but yes visions of greasy eggs, pancakes and hashbrowns might just carry me across the finish line....

Does anyone else have flashes or moments in time when you see something so visually orgasmic that it makes you want to drop everything, quit your job, move to Europe, become vegan and actually get good at Yoga.

or is that just me?

Recently I stumbled across this photo of the LadurĂ©e bakery in Paris. To say this image moves me is an understatement of proportions. I’m not quite sure why – the lines aren’t particularly clean, the colors don’t ‘jump’… its just… there is…something whimsical about the photo.

Oh one day Ladurée, one day.

Sweet Sweet Tunes

Sadly, and quite admittingly, I am one of those individuals that eagerly jumped on the Coachella bandwagon... only to take one look at my bank account and (rather quickly) jump off.  However, pity party aside, one look at Vancouvers music line up suddenly gives me reason to smile.

As such, I present to you one "seriously wicked week of music"

Saturday, April 10

Sia at Commodore Ballroom.

Sunday, April 11
Spoon at Orpheum Theatre, Charlotte Gainsbourg at Vogue Theatre or Passion Pit at Commodore Ballroom.

Monday, April 12
Miike Snow at Commodore Ballroom.

Tuesday, April 13
The xx at Commodore Ballroom.

Wednesday, April 14
Florence and The Machine at Commodore Ballroom.

Sunday, April 18th
La Roux at the Commodore Ballroom.

Huba Huba! Sure the cost of each and everyone one of these shows will cost far more than the entire weekend concert pass at Coachella. But Hey, at least I'll get to put my head on my pillow each night and dream of how amazing next year's festival will be...

Are you there god? It's me a scared blogger

There. It's done. No turning back now.

I'm officially a blogger.
